Galaxy Team Notes

STARTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT: The Galaxy are now 6-4-2 all-time in season openers but have not won one since April 3, 2004 when L.A. defeated New England 3-2 at The Home Depot Center. In each of the last three season openers, the Galaxy has failed to score.

COMING HOME: After opening the season on the road on Sunday, the Galaxy are back in Los Angeles this week in preparation for their home opener against FC Dallas on Thursday night. In the club's first 11 home openers, L.A. is 8-3-0, including wins in four of the last five home openers.

KICKOFF PUSHED BACK: The start time for Thursday night's match against FC Dallas has been pushed back to 7:30. To correspond with the debut of "MLS Primetime Thursday" on ESPN2, the network will air a 30-minute pregame show, looking at the evening's matchup and the rest 2007 MLS season, starting at 7 p.m.

ROOKIES GET A LOOK: Of the Galaxy's five selections in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft in January, three were signed by the club and two made their MLS debuts on Sunday night against the Dynamo. Defender Ty Harden, a second round selection out of the University of Washington started and played all 90 minutes at center back, helping to hold Houston's attack duo of Brain Ching and Alejandro Moreno scoreless.

By getting the start, Harden joined Nathan Sturgis, who started last season's opener against New England, as the only two rookies since Brian Ching in 2001 to start a season opener for L.A.

Harden was joined in the second half by Robbie Findley who came on in the 60th minute to replace Cobi Jones. The Galaxy's first selection (16th overall) in 2007, the Oregon State product troubled the Houston backline with his pace and drew the foul which led to Ryan Cochrane's red card.

The last time that two rookies played in a season opener for the Galaxy was in 1998 when Clint Mathis and Joe Franchino each came on as second half substitutes in a shootout win over San Jose.

A CENTURY FOR MARTINO: Kyle Martino was given the start in central midfield on Sunday night alongside Nathan Sturgis and Landon Donovan. This was the 27-year old former Rookie of the Year's 100th career regular season start, making him the 124th player in MLS history to achieve that feat. Martino, who is in his first full season with the Galaxy, has 10 goals and 20 assists during his six-year MLS career.
