LA Galaxy agree to terms with Dominguez
Defender to join Galaxy roster upon receipt of P1 visa and ITC
"We are excited to add Eduardo to our squad and believe that he will add balance, quality and experience to our defense," Galaxy Director of Soccer Paul Bravo said. "He has all the attributes necessary to be an outstanding defender in this league."
The 29-year-old central defender has spent his entire professional career playing in South America, spending all but two years in the Argentine Pirmera Division. The Lanus, Argentina native began his career with Velez Sarsfield in 1996, making his first team debut on December 20, 1996 in a 2-0 loss to Ferro. He appeared in more than 85 games for the club, scoring five times before joining Olimpo on loan for the 2002-03 season.
He played 26 games with Olimpo before joining Racing Club for the 2003-04 seasons, playing 10 times for the club before suffering a foot injury that kept him out until the 2005 Apertura when he joined fellow Primera Division club Independiente.
After one season with Independiente, which saw him return to form, playing 23 games and scoring twice while helping his club finish fourth in the Apertura standings, Dominguez left Argentina, choosing to sign with Colombian power Medellin in July 2006. He spent two years in Colombia, scoring four times in 52 games for Medellin, while helping the club reach the league semifinals in two of the three seasons (2006 Mustang II and 2007 Mustang I and II) that he played.
After his two years in Colombia, Dominguez returned to Argentina, signing with Huracán prior to the start of the 2008 Clausura in February. He played in 15 of his team's 19 games, helping them to a 13th place finish by scoring two goals, including one in their final game of the season, a 2-1 loss to Velez Sarsfield, his original club.
"I am very happy to be here, not just with the Galaxy, but in Los Angeles and the United States," Dominguez said. "This is a very important step in my career and I hope to help lead the Galaxy to the championship."
Dominguez will be eligible to be added to the Galaxy roster once he receives his P1 visa and International Transfer Clearance (ITC). Once the paperwork is completed, the Galaxy will need to clear a senior roster spot in order to officially add Dominguez to the roster.
The Galaxy will be back in action on Thursday, July 10 at the Home Depot Center when they host Chivas USA in the second installment of the Honda SuperClasico at 8 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 and can be heard in English on lagalaxy.com and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes Radio 1330 AM KWKW.
