Ricketts called to Jamaican team
LA Galaxy goalkeeper to join national team for Gold Cup
Ricketts, who is one of five MLS-based players in the Jamaican squad, has 72 caps during his international career/ A member of Jamaica's squad at the 1998 World Cup, Ricketts played his first game for the Reggae Boyz in 2001. He made his last appearance for his country in December 2008 when he helped lead Jamaica to the Digicel Caribbean Championship, earning them a berth in this year's Gold Cup.
Jamaica has been placed in Group A along with Canada, Costa Rica and El Salvador. Following their game against Canada on Friday, Jamaica will face Costa Rica in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday, July 7 before rounding out group play against El Salvador in Miami on Friday, July 10.
The 32-year old goalkeeper is in his first season with the Galaxy after signing with the club in December. He has played in 13 games this season, recording a 3-2-8 record with three clean sheets and a 1.00 goals against average. A candidate for the MLS All-Star Game, Ricketts was named the MLS Player of the Week after keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Chivas USA in his MLS debut on April 11. Last week Ricketts won the MLS Save of the Week Award for the first time and he has been nominated for the award once again been nominated for the award this week for his late save off a close range shot from Cam Weaver that clinched a 1-0 win for the Galaxy.
