A left-sided player who can either play in the midfield or as an out and out winger, Ely Allen was selected by the Galaxy in the second round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. A former member of the U.S. Under-18 National Team, Allen played four years at the University of Washington, scoring 26 goals for the Huskies. One of the top 20 scorers in Washington history, Allen, 21, had his best year as a senior in 2007, scoring a team-high 12 times and being named the Co-Pac 10 Player of the Year as he helped lead the Huskies to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
College Highlights
2007: Named the Co-Pac-10 Player of the Year as a senior, Allen was named a College Soccer News Second Team All-American and a NSCAA All-Far West Region third-team selection. A First Team All-Pac-10 performer, Allen finished the season as the Pac-10's leading scorer with 12 goals and 26 points, both of which were career-high. He started all 21 matches for UW and finished the year with five game-winning goals and had three multi-goal games including a hat trick in 3-1 win over San Diego State on 10/19 for which he earned the Pac-10 Player of the Week honor. Also had a pair of goals in 5-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield 9/2 and scored two goals while assisting on a third in a 4-2 win over Stanford. Allen scored game-winner in 1-0 upset of UCLA on 10/28 and then tallied the only goal, converting a penalty kick to lead the Huskies to a 1-0 victory over Portland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.2006: Allen played in 19 games, starting 18 for the Huskies during his junior season. He was named Second Team NSCAA/adidas All-Far West Region and First Team All-Pac-10 after scoring seven goals and adding six assists, good for second on the squad in goals and third in assists. Allen scored two goals and added an assist in season opening win vs. UC Davis on 8/25, earning him the Pac-10 Player of the Week award. Tallied back-to-back goals in the 65th and 66th minutes of a 5-0 win over Northern Illinois on 9/15. Allen scored his only game-winning goal of the season with a penalty kick which led UW to a 2-0 upset win over UCLA on 10/22.
2005: He emerged as one of the Huskies top offensive players, leading the team with four goals and three assists during his sophomore season and was named Second Team All-Pac-10. Allen played in 17 matches, starting 16 and was named Offensive MVP of Husky Fever Classic after scoring a late equalizer against Wisconsin on 9/23, a game that Washington went on to win 2-1 in overtime. He recorded a goal and an assist in 3-0 win versus Stanford on 10/23 and tallied a goal in each of UW's last two games, at Gonzaga on 11/6 and vs. Oregon State on 11/13.
2004: Allen made significant contributions to the Husky offense in his freshman season and was named Pac-10 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year. The only UW true freshman to play in all 20 matches, Allen started 18 times and was earned an All- Pac-10 Honorable Mention. Allen finished the season with three goals, second amongst Pac-10 freshmen, and one assist. He scored his first collegiate goal against UC Irvine on 9/24 and went on to add tallies against No. 20 Stanford on 10/10 and UCLA on 11/5.
Personal
A native of Kent Wash., Allen was originally born in Anchorage, Alaska before moving to Washington at the age of five. He majored in Performance Arts while at the University of Washington and is just 15 credits shy of graduation.
