A young but experienced goalkeeper, the Galaxy signed Josh Wicks after he impressed on a trial during the 2008 preseason. The 24-year old San Bernardino native has three years of experience under his belt already after having spent time with the Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers of the USL First Division. He helped lead the Whitecaps to the USL championship in 2006 and was named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year in 2007 and will now look to help the Galaxy win the MLS Cup in 2008.

USL First Division Highlights

2007: Wicks was a part of Portland's defense that led the league in fewest goals allowed (18) in 2007. He played 2,385 minutes in 27 matches and made 87 saves while allowing just 16 goals. Wicks was also a force at the offensive end of the park, recording two assists with his booming punts and goal kicks. He led the USL First Division with a 0.60 goals against average and tallied a 13-4-9 record to earn the league's Goalkeeper of the Year award. He helped Portland reach the USL Semifinals where they fell to the Atlanta Silverbacks and was selected to the USL First Division All-League First Team for the first time in his career.

2006: In his second season with the Whitecaps, Wicks was 2-1-2 in five appearances, recording two shutouts and 20 saves. He helped Vancouver win the USL First Division Championship, their first championship since the 1991 CSL (Canadian Soccer League) title.

2005: In his first year as a pro, Wicks started the final 11 matches of the season replacing the incumbent starter Mike Franks. He finished the regular season with a 5-4-2 record while recording 39 saves and five shutouts to lead the Whitecaps into the playoffs. In the postseason, Wicks kept two clean sheets against the Richmond Kickers, only for Vancouver to lose the series on penalties.

Personal

Born on a military base in Landstuhl, Germany, Wicks moved to Southern California at the age of four. While growing up in San Bernardino, Wicks spent time camping, playing basketball and BMX riding in addition to being a member of the scouts. Wicks has nine tattoos already and hopes to add to his collection. His goal is to get one in every city which he plays in. A movie buff, Wicks enjoys spending time either relaxing at home, watching movies or relaxing on the beach.
